ABOUT
YARD GUERILLA is a community of musicians who run a recording studio in Berlin Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg. We offer musicians space in which they can rehearse, produce, learn, work together, network and above all pursue their passion for music.
Through our services we support bands or individual musicians, singer-songwriters, music producers, film-makers and organizations in their audio projects. It is a special concern of ours to give amateur and professional musicians the opportunity to present their works in the best possible way through high-quality music productions.
We support musicians in realizing their musical visions.
STUDIO
With its acoustic, spatial and technical characteristics, the studio is excellently equipped to achieve recordings and mixes at the highest level.
Three rooms (control room, recording room, storage/lounge area) offer enough space to unfold musically.
The high ceilings, solid brick walls and the room acoustic installations give the rooms their special charm.
Our production equipment includes the best digital and analogue technology with a truly treasure trove-like selection of vintage gear ranging from the 50’s to the 70’s.
ROOMS
The control room has a conical and mirror-symmetrical design and offers an optimal working atmosphere through its functional arrangement of technology, workspace and sitting room comfort.
At the center of the room is the Studer 928 analogue mixing console, which can be used to record up to 24 tracks. For the conversion of audio signals, we use the world-renowned Lawo and Apogee AD/DA converters.
The outboard racks are equipped with preamps (e.g. TAB, RFT, Lorenz Leipzig), effect processors (e.g. Lexicon, Klark-Teknik, AKG), EQ’s and compressors (e.g. Altec, TAB, K+H, DBX).
Several reference loudspeaker pairs (Focal, Geithein, Event) provide the control room with a coordinated monitoring situation while Pro Tools, Cubase, Ableton and Logic are available as DAWs.
The studio is equipped with flexible workstations, which, depending on the project and requirements, also allow parallel working.
ROOMS
Our recording room has natural light and is designed conical and mirror-symmetrically. The materials used, such as copper and solid wood, give the room its unique charm.
The room is equipped with a sound system, a mixing console, a headphone amplifier with separately adjustable outputs, instruments and amplifiers.
The balanced acoustic properties of the room guarantee the highest quality recordings.

ROOM OPTIONS
We are happy to make our facilities available to you for band recordings, voiceovers, instrument tracking, songwriter sessions or overdub recordings.
You can bring along a sound engineer or we can carry out your project for you.
If you want to manage your production on your own, a preliminary briefing as well as a proof of sound engineering qualification is required.
The combination of analogue and digital equipment gives every production the perfect polishing touch.
Our LAWO and Apogee converters (32 inputs/24 outputs) provide high-quality conversion in broadcast quality and the Studer 928 analog mixing console is available for a 24-track mix.
This option is aimed at musicians, producers, students and educational institutions.
The Recording Room is ideal for individual musicians who need a room to rehearse, for bands preparing for a gig or for musicians who want to make their own recordings and edits.
We can gladly provide instruments and amps as well as a small but extremely high-quality recording setup if required.
Unfortunately we cannot schedule regular appointments for bands.
FOR MUSIC TEACHERS
You give singing or instrumental lessons and you are looking for a classroom?
We offer music teachers a space for their music lessons at very reasonable prices in a wonderful and pleasant atmosphere. The studio is centrally located with good connections, fully equipped, enjoys daylight and is accessible 24/7.
Our rooms can also accommodate small workshops for adults, teenagers or children.
The use of instruments from our collection is possible.
FAQ
I would like to make band recordings with you, what do I have to take into account?
In order to process an inquiry, the following information – if accurate – would be very useful for us:
I would like to do voice or vocal recordings at your studio, what do I have to take into account?
In order to process an inquiry, the following information – if accurate – would be very useful for us:
Tipp: If you want to record lyrics, a copy of those would be helpful for us to have during the recording.
What do I have to consider when bringing files (e.g. playbacks, pilot tracks/guide tracks or films)?
It is important that the files are delivered in the correct formats to ensure a smooth production process.
Please add the bpm to the data label for audio tracks that are necessary for the recording.
If you bring files on a data carrier, please take into account that our system is Mac-based. Alternatively, you can also give us the data on CD, DVD or a USB stick.
WeTransfer, to the e-mail address contact@ygrecords.com – please compress as archive (e.g. Zip). Please do not send files by mail!
Can I take the recordings with me after the recording session?
Yes, please let us know in good time before the start of the session if you want to take the files with you afterwards, as we need to factor in the amount of time it takes to do so.
Please bring a data carrier with sufficient capacity. If the data carrier is formatted for Windows, it should be empty in order to change the formatting if necessary.
Is there a window between the Recording Room and the Control Room?
No. Both rooms are equipped with a camera-monitor system. The system can be used upon request.
How long do the recordings last?
The answer to this question depends on several factors such as:
The production of many of the songs you hear on the radio or the internet has most likely taken more than a day. Don’t forget that things usually take longer in the studio than at rehearsals or at a concert.
Do you have Autotune?
We can edit slight inconsistencies in the pitch of vocal recordings with Pitch Correction. To achieve the best possible result, the pitch should be roughly correct. Pitch Correction is not a magic tool.
Can I do the recordings on my own or bring a sound engineer to do it?
Yes, we allow external sound engineers to use our equipment. The prerequisites are a preliminary briefing and a proof of sound engineering qualification or equivalent.
I would like to have my project edited and/or mixed by you. What should I take into account?
We edit and mix music, voice recordings and audio content for films. The following details – if accurate – are important for us:
How can I share my musical ideas with you?
You can send us your own mix and/or reference songs or simply talk to us.
What can be edited at your studio?
We edit vocal, drum, bass and guitar tracks.
This includes for example editing, intonation and timing improvements, vocal tuning, creation of midi data if necessary, etc..
How and in what format do I need to deliver the tracks?
If you bring files on a data carrier, please bear in mind that our system is Mac-based. As an alternative you can also send us the data on a CD, a DVD or a USB stick.
You can also simply send us a download link, for example via a free service like WeTransfer (https://wetransfer.com/) to the email address contact@ygrecords.com – please compress as archive (Zip). Please do not send files by mail!
Do you also do mastering?
No.
I am a songwriter and I would like to produce songs with instrumentalists. Can you help me find some?
We can certainly find the right instrumentalists for your project through our network.
Do you also do jingles and music for movies?
Yes, we also produce jingles and music for movies/videos.
I need support in producing my music. Can you help?
Of course, we can advise you, help you with arranging, create beats/tracks or, if necessary, provide a songwriter.
Can I bring a sound engineer with me and only use the rooms with equipment?
Yes, we allow external sound engineers to use our equipment. The prerequisites are a preliminary briefing and a proof of sound engineering qualification.
Do you allocate regular rehearsal room slots to bands?
Unfortunately we cannot arrange regular dates for bands. We only allocate dates for individual musicians, producers or music teachers.
Can I also rent rooms by the hour?
Yes, that is possible.
Can I bring my own equipment to the studio?
Yes, let us know in advance what you want to bring with you so that we can check if the equipment can be integrated into our system.
