FAQ

FAQ

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

RECORDING

I would like to make band recordings with you, what do I have to take into account?

In order to process an inquiry, the following information – if accurate – would be very useful for us:

  • A short project description.
  • Is there a preferred date and/or deadlines?
  • How many songs would you like to record?
  • Which instruments are to be recorded?
  • Do you intend to record the whole band at once or the instruments one after the other?
  • Should the recording be done with reference track(s) or click?
  • Should vocals be recorded?
  • Do you need the audio recordings to be exported in a special file format? As per standard practice, we record all tracks in WAV/32-bit float/44.1 kHz.
  • Would you like us to edit and/or mix the recordings?

I would like to do voice or vocal recordings at your studio, what do I have to take into account?

In order to process an inquiry, the following information – if accurate – would be very useful for us:

  • A short project description.
  • Is there a preferred date and/or deadlines?
  • How many songs would you like to record?
  • Would you like to make voice or vocal recordings for a film?
  • Do you need the audio recordings to be exported in a special file format? By default we record all tracks in WAV/32-bit float/44.1 kHz or with 48 khz as per film standard.
  • Would you like us to edit and/or mix the recordings?

Tipp: If you want to record lyrics, a copy of those would be helpful for us to have during the recording.

What do I have to consider when bringing files (e.g. playbacks, pilot tracks/guide tracks or films)?

It is important that the files are delivered in the correct formats to ensure a smooth production process.

  • Film format (MOV)
  • Playbacks, pilot tracks/guide tracks (WAV, AIFF, MP3)

Please add the bpm to the data label for audio tracks that are necessary for the recording.

If you bring files on a data carrier, please take into account that our system is Mac-based. Alternatively, you can also give us the data on CD, DVD or a USB stick.

WeTransfer, to the e-mail address contact@ygrecords.com – please compress as archive (e.g. Zip). Please do not send files by mail!

Can I take the recordings with me after the recording session?

Yes, please let us know in good time before the start of the session if you want to take the files with you afterwards, as we need to factor in the amount of time it takes to do so.

Please bring a data carrier with sufficient capacity. If the data carrier is formatted for Windows, it should be empty in order to change the formatting if necessary.

Is there a window between the Recording Room and the Control Room?

No. Both rooms are equipped with a camera-monitor system. The system can be used upon request.

How long do the recordings last?

The answer to this question depends on several factors such as:

  • Length and amount of songs or lyrics?
  • How many instruments are to be recorded?
  • How would you like to record?
  • Have the songs or lyrics been rehearsed intensively beforehand?

The production of many of the songs you hear on the radio or the internet has most likely taken more than a day. Don’t forget that things usually take longer in the studio than at rehearsals or at a concert.

Do you have Autotune?

We can edit slight inconsistencies in the pitch of vocal recordings with Pitch Correction. To achieve the best possible result, the pitch should be roughly correct. Pitch Correction is not a magic tool.

Can I do the recordings on my own or bring a sound engineer to do it?

Yes, we allow external sound engineers to use our equipment. The prerequisites are a preliminary briefing and a proof of sound engineering qualification or equivalent.

MIXING & EDITING

I would like to have my project edited and/or mixed by you. What should I take into account?

We edit and mix music, voice recordings and audio content for films. The following details – if accurate – are important for us:

  • A short project description.
  • How many songs/projects?
  • Length of song or project.
  • Number of tracks per song/project.

How can I share my musical ideas with you?

You can send us your own mix and/or reference songs or simply talk to us.

What can be edited at your studio?

We edit vocal, drum, bass and guitar tracks.
This includes for example editing, intonation and timing improvements, vocal tuning, creation of midi data if necessary, etc..

How and in what format do I need to deliver the tracks?

  • We need all single tracks of the project in WAV or AIFF format in 32-bit float/44.1 kHz (or at least 24-bit float/44.1 kHz).
  • Please deliver films as MOV files.
  • Please name all tracks (e.g. guitar, snare, bass, vocals etc.)
  • Names of the individual songs/projects and their bpm.
  • When exporting from the audio software, please make sure that all plug-ins are deactivated (even those in the master channel).
  • When exporting, please leave us a gap of one bar before the beginning of the arrangement as well as a little gap at the end.

If you bring files on a data carrier, please bear in mind that our system is Mac-based. As an alternative you can also send us the data on a CD, a DVD or a USB stick.

You can also simply send us a download link, for example via a free service like WeTransfer (https://wetransfer.com/) to the email address contact@ygrecords.com – please compress as archive (Zip). Please do not send files by mail!

Do you also do mastering?

No.

MUSIC PRODUCTION

I am a songwriter and I would like to produce songs with instrumentalists. Can you help me find some?

We can certainly find the right instrumentalists for your project through our network.

Do you also do jingles and music for movies?

Yes, we also produce jingles and music for movies/videos.

I need support in producing my music. Can you help?

Of course, we can advise you, help you with arranging, create beats/tracks or, if necessary, provide a songwriter.

ROOM REQUESTS

Can I bring a sound engineer with me and only use the rooms with equipment?

Yes, we allow external sound engineers to use our equipment. The prerequisites are a preliminary briefing and a proof of sound engineering qualification.

Do you allocate regular rehearsal room slots to bands?
